I am set for court in Arlington municipal court this Friday on unclean premises and zoning violations dating back to 2006. I paid a $470.00 fine related to the same violation back then, but the city now says these are separate charges that were not dealt with. I was never notified of this until recently. The fine for this is identical to the fine I paid previously and can be paid anytime prior to my court date. Can I prevail if I go to trial or should I just pay the fine (speedy trial? Failure to notify, etc.)?

Was it legal for a nun at a parochial middle school to read the contents of a student's accidentally dropped cell phone, which revealed that the student and her friend had innocently chatted online with a stranger, and then call the police to search the friend's home based on the student's vague musings about hoping the stranger would not find her? This led to the police entering our home without our knowledge, searching it entirely, and subsequently involving various departments that resulted in our house being condemned and our family being subjected to unnecessary psychological evaluations and temporary displacement. Do we have grounds for a lawsuit?
