I paid an attorney $4,000 in July 2018 for services that were never rendered. The attorney is now refusing to refund the payment, claiming it was non-refundable only after I requested a refund. I am in Maine and had one meeting with him in July, during which he reviewed my existing divorce decree. I later informed him that my ex-husband and I had come to an agreement, so I no longer needed his services and requested a refund, less the cost of the meeting. I am a member of a nonprofit board for a high school cheer program in California. We were recently threatened with a lawsuit for not following the bylaws, which require a budget to be adopted by the membership before any funds are disbursed. We made an unintentional mistake and disbursed funds for cheer camp, uniforms, and supplies. I need advice on the following: 1) What course of action should we take? 2) What is the liability of individual board members? Can they be sued personally, and for how much? 3) Given that we are all working moms with limited financial resources, should we comply with the demands? 4) If other board members disagree on the proper way to rectify the situation, am I within my rights to resign from the board?

One of our employees in California had a traffic accident while driving a 20 ft. box truck. The co-driver was injured with two broken legs and a broken nose. We have filed a workers' compensation claim. What are the best practices for supporting an injured employee in such cases, and what can companies typically offer to make employees feel valued? Additionally, if the employee decides to open a lawsuit, who would it be against?
