I purchased a housing development lot for $150k in 2005, but it's now worth about $20k. I have a $90k loan with Assetts Recovery LLC, and they offered me the option to settle the mortgage by writing a letter stating what I can pay. If I offer them $22k to pay off the mortgage, will I own the property free and clear, and how can I be sure this is true?
