I've been staying at a motel in Buttonwillow, CA, Kern County for over 5 years. The motel was sold, and the new owner remodeled the rooms and raised the rent by 40%. The manager asked me to sign a paper agreeing to the new rent, and when I refused, they served me a 60-day eviction notice. Is it legal for them to serve me a notice because they raised the rent by an illegal amount?
