I was cited for failure to obey a stop sign, pleaded not guilty, and now have a trial. Should I get a lawyer or represent myself? Can the cop cite me if he wasn't there? What if I can't afford a lawyer? How do I prove the cop wasn't there? What if I have a witness who saw the same thing I saw? Does the citation carry jail time if found guilty? What is the punishment for that? How long will it stay on my driving record? Will it affect future employment? Can I get it removed from my record, or do I just have to deal with it? When do I ask for a deferred judgment?

As a creditor of a small S corporation, I lent it $100,000. The company cannot repay me and is barely breaking even. The main asset is a piece of email marketing software. I am considering taking over the business name, customers, and assets, but I am concerned about unknown tax obligations and potential liability. What steps can I take to protect myself from any tax obligations the company may have, and how can I determine if there are such obligations? Additionally, since it's not year-end yet and the company has not filed taxes for this year, could I become liable for that as well? Am I at all liable since I am only taking over the assets and not the S corp itself? I am in the state of Michigan.

I live in SC and my investment advisor in NC has $100K of mine in a money market account and $400K in an annuity since January 2013. I asked him to transfer $80K from the money market account to my Schwab Investor checking account, but he refused, citing potential debts he claims I owe him and potential liability for a $40K bonus from the insurance company if I withdraw funds within a year. Can he legally withhold my money for these reasons, and has the $40K bonus been added to my annuity account or paid to my financial adviser?

Is there any legal backing to the 'inhumanity' of asking students to ride on an unairconditioned school bus for a 7+ hour trip? My district's transportation union is trying to force me to use their driver and school bus (because their contract states that they get to have the trips) even though the trip is 8-9 hours long and we have used a charter bus company for the past 3 years.
