I was found at fault in a motor vehicle accident in Madison, WI. The other driver is now alleging that the accident caused him to need shoulder surgery and may sue me for health expenses beyond my insurance policy's limits. How can I protect myself and my family from potential legal action, especially given our financial situation with a daughter in college and an old house in need of repairs? Should I consider getting an umbrella policy, and how does it work?

Do you deal with contract issues related to the purchase of a companion dog from a breeder? I purchased the dog from a breeder in VA but live in NC. I agreed to bring the dog back to the breeder to be spayed within 60 days, but the breeder kept postponing and would not provide the name of her vet. The contract did not specify that I had to leave the dog with the breeder for 10-14 days post-spay. The breeder is now sending threatening texts and letters, and calling my vet claiming she still owns the dog and that I have breached the contract.
