I was offered a position with a company and accepted, but after starting, they dismissed me due to issues verifying my high school diploma during a background check. Should they have conducted this background check fully before offering the position, so I could have avoided leaving my previous job?

I've been having issues with my apartment manager. My lease is up at the end of January. I applied for another apartment and was told that I've been evicted and owe 4 months of back rent, which is not true as I'm still living in my current apartment. Can my manager provide this false information, and can she put me on a blacklist before I move out? What legal actions can I take against her for defamation?

I was fired because the executive chef alleged that I threatened him, with no witnesses or footage showing me behaving hostile. I have a prior incident in my file from 2011 involving a shouting match with a cook. I am worried about the union lawyer potentially doing a quid pro quo. Am I at risk of losing my job due to these circumstances, and what legal information should I seek?

If I document everything well and pay off a debt, can I expect to be successful in court? I don't want to pay it off and lose in court. If I provide full documentation and proof of payment of the amount in collection, do I have a strong case?
