I was terminated from my job after 20 years of service, during which I was the second lowest paid among 11 people at my level but the longest-serving employee. My manager filed an investigation against me for violating business conduct after I questioned my pay evaluation. I was subsequently terminated for violating a data protection policy without prior warning or discussion. I have not heard from HR since my termination, but my former manager has contacted me. I am seeking advice on what to ask for in a settlement, whether I should file for unemployment, and if my manager's post-termination contact is appropriate.
