If I believe that emancipation is in my best interest and I have a friend who has agreed to let me move in when I decide to emancipate myself, while I would still be paying half of the rent, electricity, and any other apartment-related payments, would I have a greater chance at getting emancipated if I bring it to the courts? I am 16 years old and will be turning 17 in January. I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and have experienced physical altercations with my mother, including being pushed into a bookshelf and having a finger pulled to the point of injury. My father has not intervened to help. I have voice memos of arguments and incidents where my mother has tried to prevent me from leaving with my father. I want to know if I need my parents' consent for emancipation and what steps I should take to start the process.
