In the same situation, Mr. Patteson just answered these same people also filed a complaint against my firm with the state board of accountancy. My malpractice carrier provided legal assistance who responded, and we are still waiting on a decision but nothing yet. The complaint lists all the same false claims and statements. My attorney for the complaint feels this is a false complaint which will go nowhere. Can this also be used in a suit against them for libel and defamation?

I foolishly co-signed student loans for both my children with Sallie Mae. Neither have jobs that can support them 100 percent, but also have no funds to pay on their loans. My wife and I have been able to pay the loans for them, but we are getting along in years and do not know how much longer we will be able to be employed. When we are both on Social Security and drawing off our 401K's, what, if anything, can Sallie Mae get from us if we can no longer pay. We live in New York state residents.
