My parents, who rent an apartment in New Jersey, need to move to a first-floor apartment due to health reasons, including multiple falls and deteriorating health. They have asked their landlord to move them to the first floor at the end of their lease, but the landlord has not agreed. They have letters from two doctors stating their medical conditions and the need to move. Is the landlord required to provide this accommodation, and can they be evicted if they do not renew their yearly lease? Additionally, renters on the first floor are agreeable to switching apartments.
