Our mother died on November 14, 2019 in Huntsville, Madison County, AL. She left a valid will created in 2006 in Florida. The estate qualifies as a small estate with an estimated value of $22,500 in furniture, household goods, medical equipment, and jewelry. I would like to file the will and petition the court for a summary distribution of the estate, but the Alabama Small Estate Affidavit form seems designed for those without wills. Why can't I file the affidavit without assistance of an attorney, especially since the estate is small and there are no significant assets or debts?
