We had a verbal agreement with an individual to board and help train our purebred dog. We financed the costs of feeding and maintenance. The individual gave our pet to another person without informing us or asking our permission. This person gave the dog to his brother, who then gave the dog to another party. We went to this person's home with local police to determine the status and positive ID of the dog. This individual stated that he will not release the dog to us even though he knows the dog has AKC Registration in our name. We were not aware of the change in the dog's living status. We have never implied that the dog was adoptable or to be considered a rescue. We have the documentation and breeder has DNA history on 3 previous generations. Because of the history of so-called agreements of ownership, the local police cannot help us and referred us back within our own county (Polk Co. Iowa) for civil proceedings. How will Civil Court decide legal ownership of my German Shorthair?
