We issued a paycheck to an employee several months ago. He cashed it at a check cashing place. The check cashing place called and said it was returned as NSF. I called our bank, the bank said it was never presented for payment. I faxed that back to the Check cashing place. After two months of not hearing from them, they have, these last two weeks been calling daily, leaving messages. I faxed again my response. It has not stopped their calling. Any suggestions? I don't want to issue a check to them as the original check was a payroll check. It has not cleared our bank. I don't know how to proceed.

I filed a civil complaint in VA against someone living in MD. I have his rental residence address in MD but could not find him to serve him the complaint. He is perhaps traveling. What are the time limits for serving him, and what happens if I can't serve him within that time? What recourse do I have to find him, and what if he goes out of the country or to another state? Can I serve through the secretary of commonwealth, and can a default judgment be made if he can't be found? How do I prove he's avoiding service, and can a US judgment be enforced in other countries like Canada, Germany, or England if he moves there?

My life partner became ill suddenly in June of this year. His health and life insurance was continued until September 30 under FMLA. I have applied for COBRA and have the conversion papers for his life insurance policy which gives me 30 days to convert to a private policy. If he passes before the conversion is complete - (I have new policy in hand) - but within the 30-day conversion timeline - will they honor the policy?
