A young adult has developed painful, reddish-purple, golf ball-sized lumps on the back of the head, near the scalp, and behind the ear. The lumps have increased in number and there are also swollen anterior cervical lymph nodes. The individual has been treated with a sulfonamide antibiotic but the condition has not improved.
