Can a slow GI bleed cause anemia for life? Will Protonix help my GI bleed, and does it inhibit iron absorption from food? I have hereditary hernia, Barrett's Esophagus, difficulty absorbing iron, low Ferritin levels since birth, and symptoms of needing a third blood transfusion. I'm currently taking Protonix and have tried oral iron supplements but they cause stomach pain and vomiting. What should I do?

My primary care physician suggested I talk to my psychiatrist about it.
