How long does it take for opioids, specifically Morphine-based drugs, to reduce their side effects when the dosage is cut in half? I reduced my dosage by half in February 2014, and I believe it can take up to 6 months for the side effects to reduce once the amount has been significantly reduced. Is this correct?

I have had a persistent cough for more than six months, accompanied by severe fatigue, toe and calf cramps, and recent snoring. I have a negative chest x-ray, no known allergies or asthma, and have gained significant weight in the last year. I am on thyroid medication and have normal blood sugar levels. I am struggling with daily activities and lack energy and zest for life. What could be causing these symptoms and what tests or treatments should I consider?
