I am an 81-year-old female with a history of severe upper respiratory infections (URIs) for the past 6 years. I had a severe reaction to a pneumonia shot 12 years ago, which included swelling, yellowing of the arm, and feeling generally unwell. My doctor advised against another pneumonia shot due to the risk of adverse effects. However, I am concerned about the risk of a more serious URI potentially leading to death. What are the risks and benefits of the new two-injection pneumonia vaccine, and what other options do I have to protect myself from severe URIs?
