I was prescribed Clindamycin HCL for a dental infection after amoxicillin failed. Halfway through the treatment, I started having persistent diarrhea, which continued even after stopping the antibiotics a week ago. I now have frequent bowel movements, mostly small and relatively solid, often propelled by flatulence. I have no fever or abdominal pain, but noticed minor rectal irritation with bright red blood two days ago. I have been taking a proton-pump inhibitor for chronic heartburn, but this issue is new. Is this likely a remaining side-effect of the antibiotics, possibly a C. difficile infection treatable with probiotics, or should I be concerned about something more serious?
