I suffer from a persistent chronic cough for almost 2 years. I am 70 years old, have multiple sclerosis, and the cough is dry with no fever, night sweats, or history of runny nose or skin/food allergies. The cough can occur at any time, is violent, and causes choking and gasping for breath, often with tears. It is exacerbated by dry foods but occurs without them, and I do not suffer from acidity or reflux. What could be causing this cough and what tests or treatments should I consider?
