My husband suddenly has chills, his blood pressure is okay, and he has no fever. He is low on platelets (32) and takes Tavelisse. He is 82 years old, has occasional problems urinating, and had some difficulties today. He also has a backache. What could be causing his chills, and what should we do?

My palms have been red for about two weeks, around the same time I started knitting and crocheting. The yarn makes my face and chest itchy. Do you think this palm redness could be from that? I am 68 years old and have type 2 diabetes. I take atorvastatin and metformin.

I got the results of my physical. It says that my triglyceride level is high, but my cholesterol/HDL ratio is within the normal range. How does triglyceride differ from cholesterol/HDL ratio? Also, what is mild Hashimoto’s thyroiditis?

My girlfriend has hypothyroidism and takes levothyroxine. Her thyroid levels seem to be changing frequently. Is it normal to adjust medication levels every 5-6 months? Is there a more comprehensive test than TSH levels? Should she see a specialist if her general practitioner can't stabilize her condition? What can a specialist offer that a GP cannot?
