I have been under doctors' care since November trying to find out why I am coughing. The cough has worsened despite being tested for reflux and being on Nexium for a month. Is it possible that I may have a pinched nerve or blockage causing difficulty in breathing, especially when lying down? My left leg feels like it's going to sleep during coughing spells, and my left ear feels pressured. Should I go to the emergency room or wait and call my GP on Monday?

I am a 45-year-old male in excellent health. As a teenager, I experienced several mild asthmatic episodes easily treated with an albuterol inhaler. I have not experienced an asthmatic episode in over 30 years. My family has recently learned to scuba dive, but the instructor rejected me based on my asthma history. Is this reasonable? I can find no hard data or facts contraindicating asthma sufferers from diving. Do you know of any?
