I was diagnosed with stage 3 renal failure two years ago due to a kidney infection. I was prescribed nitrofurantoin (Macrodantin) to prevent recurrent UTIs. I want to know if my kidney disease could progress to stage 4, if I need periodic kidney function tests, what tests show kidney function, and if there is any way to prevent the progression of kidney failure or if it inevitably leads to dialysis.

My dad is taking blood pressure medication (metoprolol succinate 25 mg) along with other heart medications. His blood pressure readings have been 120-135/65-75, but this morning it was 108/61. Should I still give him the blood pressure medication with his other heart medications?
