For the past six months, my period has only been a dark brown flow. Is this normal?

I've noticed small amounts of blood on my underwear a couple of times over the past two weeks. I've also been experiencing hot flashes and insomnia. Is there a connection? I'm scheduled to see a gynecologist in two weeks.

I am experiencing various symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, anxiety, heart palpitations, fatigue, mood swings, weight gain, depression, loss of libido, bloating, headaches, muscle tension, soreness, sudden tears, incontinence, difficulty concentrating, and tingling sensations in my lips, jaw, hands, and feet. I am concerned if these symptoms are related to hormonal imbalance and perimenopause, and what non-hormonal alternatives I can use to alleviate these symptoms.

I have been using the Evra patch for about 10 months and recently switched to the NuvaRing. I followed the instructions to remove the patch and insert the NuvaRing correctly. However, I have not had my menstrual cycle since removing the NuvaRing three weeks ago. Should I continue my birth control, and is it normal to miss a menstrual cycle when changing birth control? Or is there a high chance I may be pregnant?
