I am 51 years old and my period has become erratic over the past year. I had a period on November 4th, skipped December, and then had a shorter, lighter period on January 5th. I got my period again on January 25th and am still bleeding. I had my annual exam and pap smear in July, and everything was fine. I am not using any contraceptives, and the bleeding has been stable, not soaking through a pad per hour. I do not have a family history of uterine, ovarian, or bladder cancer. What could be causing this irregular bleeding, and is it normal during perimenopause?

On the second to last active pill of my 3rd pack, I forgot to take it so I doubled up the next day as instructed. Was I still protected against pregnancy, especially since the missed pill was close to my placebo pills/break pills?
