I lost my virginity a few years ago and have always thought my hymen looks abnormal since then. I have used a mirror to examine it and noticed a piece of tissue hanging out of my vagina, which looks like chewed-up gum inside the opening. This affects me aesthetically but does not hurt or affect menstruation or penetration. Is this normal, and is there any way to make it go away, such as through surgery?

I have been on birth control pills for over 15 years and was recently diagnosed with high-risk HPV. I am terrified that this could lead to cervical cancer. I have read studies suggesting that birth control pills increase the risk of cervical cancer in women with HPV. Should I stop taking my birth control pills? Will it make the infection harder to clear? Do you see patients on birth control not clearing the virus and developing cancer more often in practice?
