As a caregiver and independent contractor for a 90-year-old married couple, I maintain their household, shop and cook their meals, do their laundry, and provide personal care. I work 24/7 with an occasional day off staffed with a substitute that I pay. I provide for my own meals since the couple does not provide for them. My residence is two miles away, and I stop by infrequently to pick up a change of clothes or take care of some minor personal business. I file both Schedules C and SE. Can I take a standard deduction for meals under these circumstances?
