Can I claim my granddaughter on my 2008 tax form? Her mother receives SSI and they both stay with me. My daughter pays me a small rent and utilities.

I am trying to claim the $6,500 tax credit for the purchase of a new home. I lived in my old home that I sold for the previous 5 years. The new home is custom built - the construction loan was approved on July 6th, and the house was finished December 30th 2009 with a signed-around loan modification executed by me and the bank. We moved in on December 30th. Will this qualify for the tax credit?

I did not pay into Social Security because I worked for the state. How do I report this on my taxes? I did not receive any paperwork from my employer except for my W-2.

I received a 1099-misc with my personal name on it, but the income was supposed to be under my partnership LLC. I provided my personal information instead of my LLC's EIN to the company issuing the 1099. Is there a way to correct this and put the 1099 under my LLC instead of myself? Additionally, what should I do if I can't correct it before the tax filing deadline, and what actions are necessary if I receive the corrected forms but the IRS doesn't request them?

My refund has been lowered. I am located at Eielson AFB, AK, I am 21 years old with no dependents, and my typical filing status is single. I made about $24K this year. What could be the reason for the lowered refund and what can I do about it?

I got divorced last year, and in the divorce settlement, my ex got the house and I got a lump sum distribution from his retirement account. The judge signed a QDRO and Nationwide issued the disbursement to me as the alternate payee. The amount was $36,000, and they withheld $7204 in taxes. I received a 1099-R from Nationwide and when I entered the information on the 1040, it increased my AGI by the $36,000. My question is, in the divorce decree it is stated: 'IT IS ORDERED AND DECREED that all payments made to the other party in accordance with the allocation provisions for payment of federal income taxes contained in this Final Decree of Divorce are not deemed income to the party receiving those payments but are part of the property division and necessary for a just and right division of the parties' estate.' Does that mean the disbursement I received should not be counted as income? Or do I enter the amounts exactly as on the 1099-R and leave it as is? Thank you!
