For tax year 2012, my adult child, age 35, was unemployed and under a doctor's care for mental health. I was his full means of support and claimed him as a dependent for tax purposes. We financially supported him again in 2013. Can we claim him as a dependent for 2013 even though as of January 2014, we no longer provide full support and he is receiving Medicaid and food assistance starting in January 2014?

I was in Australia for 5 months on a 457 visa during the current fiscal year, paid in Singapore, and my visa was cancelled in December 2013. My company advised that I would not have to pay Australian tax as I am considered a Singapore resident. Do I still need to file a tax return in Australia, and if so, will I have to pay any tax?

Did the Mortgage Debt Relief Act get extended through 2015? If someone does a deed in lieu of foreclosure, do they have to pay the debt forgiven as ordinary income, and what are the legal requirements for insolvency to exclude forgiven debt from income?

Can I pay someone more per diem per hour than the federal tax rate? For example, if I get someone hired at $50/HR, can I pay them $35/HR per diem and $15/HR federal taxed? Is there a law against that or is it just frowned upon? In my line of work, it's very competitive, and other staffing agencies offer these lopsided per diem rates, and we are losing out on business because of it. I can't find a definitive answer anywhere online.

I take care of my mother full-time and live with her. She gives me money to pay my bills. Do I have to pay taxes on this money? I also rent out my house for $750 a month. Would I have to file a tax return on this rental income? Additionally, I would like to collect Social Security when I reach retirement age. If I can, what would the amount I receive be based on, considering the only tax return I would be filing is based on my rental income and stock dividends? Could I still receive Social Security?

I am currently on disability and have not worked for over 4 years. I just started receiving disability as of June this year. I received a letter from the Department of Children and Families stating that I may be eligible for an earned income tax credit. I have also heard that I am eligible for a refund from my dental expenses which were necessary and quite expensive. What tax forms should I use, and can I deduct my medical and dental expenses even though I have had no income for 4 years? Can I go back 3 years to claim these expenses, and do I need help to do this?
