I retired in June 2021. A year before, TIAA said we were able to withdraw our savings without the need to pay the IRS in three years. I didn't pay attention to the 1099-R because I thought I was protected from paying. I got a CP2000. Neither TIAA or the IRS agents or advocate people are giving me the benefit of the doubt. They all talk about the legal aspect of my case. The money I took in June 2020 was to buy a house before my retirement. I will fill out my taxes as a writer and photographer. I need a CPA (not sure where to look for a reasonable price), but first I want to be able to understand what is going on with my taxes now (with Cares Act problem) and for the future (filling taxes as a writer). I am willing to learn and attend workshops. I feel very illiterate in these matters. People live scared of the IRS and I hate this feeling and not being in control or my money as a middle class person with no big income. I retired at 62. What should I do to resolve my tax issues and understand my tax situation better?

My husband is listed as the annuitant on an annuity owned by his former government employee. The company wants to change ownership to my husband, but the insurance company states it will create a taxable event for him. Is this correct, and why can't my husband, who is the annuitant, receive payments directly from the insurance company?

I placed an asset in service in 2022 for $20,000. I paid half of it before year-end and the other half early 2023. I’m on a cash basis. However, the asset was fully in service in 2022. Can I deduct 100% of the cost in 2022 using Section 168 (bonus depreciation)?
