asked

I am living under my husband's military orders in Colombia and have been offered remote employment by a US-based company. They are concerned about tax implications if I am hired as a W2 employee and prefer to hire me as a 1099 contractor. I am under Chief of Mission authority and authorized to work remotely for a US firm from US embassy property. I need advice on the tax implications and the differences between being a W2 employee and a 1099 contractor, especially considering my unique situation of working from US embassy property in Colombia.
