I am representing a client for an audit. One of the 1099 forms was incorrectly issued, showing an incorrect social security number ending in 9999. This 1099 is not reflected on the tax return, and I want to suggest to the auditor that I want to amend this 1099 and remove it from the calculation of Form 1096. I am concerned that the auditor might penalize my client for issuing this 1099. What would be the safest way to handle this mistakenly filed 1099?
