I am the father of David A. Lombard, who is currently in prison at Seagoville prison in Texas. I received two stimulus checks in his name at my home in Papillion, Nebraska. I am unable to deposit the checks into his account because it was closed due to being hacked. I couldn't open a new account because the checks weren't signed, and the bank couldn't accept checks from incarcerated people due to FDIC insurance. The funds from his original account are now in my name and my wife's, with David as the beneficiary. What can I do to get the checks deposited into that account?

I already have $200,000 in an account at Travis Credit Union. I have sold a mobile home for approximately $144,000, and it will close this week, maybe as soon as tomorrow. This will bring my Travis account over the $250,000 that is insured. If I would put some of that money into a CD with Travis CU, would a portion still not be insured or is a CD separately insured?

We received a 1099-B form, but we did not sell or trade any assets this year. My husband’s company was acquired, and the form seems to capture proceeds from broker transactions due to this acquisition. The term ‘proceeds’ suggests we made money and should pay taxes on it, but our account after the sale shows no increase in value, nor did we receive any cash. What are these ‘proceeds’ and why am I paying taxes on them?
