I filed my initial 1040 form e-file on April 15th. We received a letter in mid-August stating we needed to get a form from Commonground Ins and send it back to the IRS. We did this on September 10, 2020, and have not heard back since. I am hoping to start my taxes for 2020, but cannot do this without knowing if we will get a refund or owe money. How can I find out the status of my 2019 tax return and if I need to wait to file my 2020 taxes?

I had my son in 9 months full custody in 2020 from January to September. I then got joint custody. The judge ruled he gets to claim him every year for taxes. My question is who claims him for 2020. 9 months out of last year I was primary and he was with me.
