As the sole beneficiary and executor of my partner's estate, who passed away in 2017, I lived in the home for 20 years and paid all expenses, including mortgage interest and property taxes, until the estate was settled in 2021. I was not on the deed or mortgage during this time, but it was stipulated in the will that I would take care of these matters. Why can't I deduct the mortgage interest and property taxes on my personal taxes, and is it possible to amend my tax papers for the past years?
