I'm doing taxes through TurboTax in California. My husband, a deputy for LA County Sheriff, took leave last year for the birth of our child. TurboTax asks to check a box for paid family leave if any income was earned as paid family leave. I checked it because he did take leave, but it significantly changes what we get back from California. Should I click that box if the state did not pay him, and his work did, but I'm not sure if he was paid from his sick time or vacation time?

I have a HECM loan line of credit on my house and need to know what documents to take to my tax preparer. I retired in November, lost my wife in 2016, and am now on Social Security. I also have a W-2 from my former employer. What else should I bring to the tax preparer?

If property taxes due in 2016 were paid late in 2017 in addition to the amounts due in 2017, can those be deducted on Schedule A of 1040 in 2017?

I received a CP2000 notice for my 2016 tax return and paid the amount due. Do I need to amend my tax form in TurboTax, and if so, how do I report the payment on my current tax report? Additionally, my state tax return was donated to a wildlife fund and I did not receive it. How do I deduct that amount from my taxes?

My daughter, who is an American citizen with dual citizenship, moved to Canada in 2009, attended college there, and now works as a teacher. She files taxes as a Canadian resident but has been told she should also file a tax return in the US every year despite having no US income sources. What should she do to comply with US tax laws, especially for the years she did not file?
