I'm going to be late on filing my taxes for the first time. I got married this year and haven't met with our accountant yet. I'm unsure if we're filing jointly or married-but-separate. How should I handle filing an extension if I don't know how we're going to file? We may owe thousands or nothing. Should I make an estimated payment of $3000, and could it be problematic if we don't owe that much or trigger a closer look by the IRS?

I made two mistakes when filing my 8843 form along with my tax return. 1. I filed 8843 under "Teachers and Trainees" but I think I should have done it under "Students". 2. I forgot to fill in my Country of Tax residence, passport number of citizenship. Is there a way to send a corrected 8843? Many thanks!

As an over-the-road truck driver, I spent 317 days away from home, with 240 days before September 30 and 77 days after October 1. I also had 21 arrival/departure days before September 30 and 11 after October 1. Am I allowed any per diem deductions, and how do I report it on my tax return?
