I am looking to purchase a house with the intent to live in until I can find a tenant. Would it be better to purchase the home under my name or under an LLC entity? Would it give me a greater tax benefit to purchase it under my name for a certain time and then start renting it out? Are there any tax benefits for me if the house is in the LLC?

I live in Kansas and work in Missouri. I filed tax returns for both states but only paid tax for Missouri, where I work. Now, Kansas is asking me to pay tax on my out-of-state income. I don't understand why this is happening, especially since my employer and the state department of revenue have conflicting information about the correct way to report my income.
