We filed MFJ for federal in 2017 but MFS for states due to living in different states. I received a large refund from my non-resident state (VA) because my employer shouldn't have withheld there, while my husband had to pay 10K with his VA return. We itemized. Do I need to claim my entire refund as income, or do I net it with the amount my spouse paid on his VA return? We will file jointly for federal this year and separate for states again this year.
