I need help with an important question to find out what I need to produce proof that a dependent we claimed is actually ours and our return will be completed. I have called so many times and only get automated recordings that tell me to call back next day or day after that. Please help me.

In 2015, I invested $50,000 in a restaurant business with a contract stating I would receive half of the profits. I have not received any returns and the owner claims there are no profits. I have had difficulty accessing the financial records and believe the owner may be misusing funds. I have not had contact since 2016. Is there any way I can write off this investment as a loss on my taxes?
