I need to obtain a Tax ID number for The DelMarVa Chapter of the Pontiac Oakland Club, a non-profit automobile club dedicated to the exhibition and promotion of Pontiac-Oakland-GMC automobiles. We have restored these vehicles and display them at car shows and malls, but we do not raise money. What is the procedure to get this Tax ID number?

I just became an independent contractor at the beginning of the year. My employer pays me commission, but doesn't handle payroll. What steps do I need to take to stay on top of taxes this year? What forms and receipts do I need to keep? What do I file as? And what about quarterly tax payments—am I required to pay taxes during the year? This is all very confusing to me.
