I am applying for SSDI due to a disability that started on 2/1/2022. I have been on Massachusetts FMLA until 6/20/2022. Assuming my request is approved, when do back benefits start accumulating? Does the 5-month waiting period for SSDI benefits start after FMLA ends, or is it impacted by the FMLA period? Additionally, do I need to be formally separated from my job to qualify for SSDI, even though I am on FMLA and not collecting income?
