I purchased a property in California in 2017 as a main residence, lived there for 16 months, and then moved out due to work. I rented it out to cover the mortgage and sold the property in 2022 for a gain of $262k. My previous tax adviser said I qualified for a partial exemption, but now my accountant says I don't qualify for any tax exemption. What can I do about this?
