How are my payroll taxes calculated, and why am I being taxed 41% out of my bi-weekly paychecks? I am 70 years old, located in San Diego, California, with no dependents. My income sources include retirement (56k), Social Security (10k), part-time salary (1200 every two weeks, bringing home $500), and stimulus (11k). I file single and have been paying back 3-4k a year, but now I have $125 withheld per paycheck.

With SS and VA benefit income and no employment income, do I have to file IRS or OK state tax returns? I am 76, my wife is 55, we have no dependents, and we file jointly. Our income is less than $3K, mainly from interest on retirement savings. Additionally, I have an extension for 2019 that I have not followed up on.

We have not received the American Rescue Plan for $2800. I believe it is because our checking account number has changed from 006*********** to 7***********. Our checking account is with Wells Fargo Bank. Can you help me?
