I submitted my taxes yesterday. However, I'm not sure if I need to submit taxes for my mother, who died on November 30, 2022. I also need to get an EIN from the IRS for my mother to set up an estate. Will I need an EIN, or can I use her SSN, even though she is no longer alive?

My brother-in-law, a former Wall Street accountant, does our taxes. He wasn't able to finish the paperwork before yesterday's filing deadline. He will be getting the paperwork to me later today. Turns out that we owe $2500! We will send in the returns with a check by tomorrow. Is there anything that I can do at this point to minimize the penalties for the late filing and payment?

I have questions about taxes and online sports betting. I'm in Ohio, and we just got legalized online sports betting. I am on multiple betting apps. I read that I am liable for taxes on any winnings over $600, is that correct? Does the $600 in winnings mean on each app, or all apps total? Let's say I win $700 for the year. Am I going to be taxed for $700, or just the $100 above the $600?
