My parents had a new roof installed on their home. The company left the attic open and exposed for 2 days during rain, causing mold to form. They are not admitting responsibility and won't fix the problem. Their home owner's insurance won't cover mold removal either. They are elderly and on a fixed income, so money is tight. Can the cost of mold removal be deducted on their 2008 income taxes?

My tenant has been paying me rent for years, but I did not pay taxes on it. Now, Social Security will be paying a portion of his rent directly, and they know who I am because I have to fill out a form proving he lives there. Is there a chance I would have to pay back taxes because Social Security is paying my rent?

Due to several vet visits for my ailing pet, I needed to take money out of my HSA account this past year. Luckily, I get a health bonus each January from my employer, so I can easily put all those funds back into the account before I do my taxes. Will this be "in time" or am I too late and will be penalized?

I have been living with my girlfriend for over a year now, and she wants to claim me as a dependent in order to claim "head of household" status since she pays for mortgage, utilities, and most other bills. I do not work and am a retired (100%) disabled veteran, receiving disability pensions from both VA and Social Security which are tax free. I usually help with other expenses, the majority being travel and entertainment expenses. Will the IRS accept this as valid and what will they look for to validate the claim/status?
