We live in Texas and my husband was deeded a 1/5 undivided interest in a ranch with a value of $1,500,000. The children were unaware of the gift until he died in 2009. The property is being sold now with a value of $2,600,000. What could the tax consequences be for this gift with each child receiving $500,000 from the sale?

I have started a new job about a month or two ago, initially as an independent contractor earning around 27.6K to 36K a year, but now offered a salary-based position starting at 38K a year with health insurance and 10 PTO days. I am 24, have no dependents, and made about 16K this year. I live in New Jersey but recently moved from New York. I want to weigh the options between being an independent contractor and an employee, considering taxes, expenses, and benefits.
