I have a 1099-S for a house in TX that my father and step-mother used to own. When my father passed away on Dec 16, 1998, I was added to the deed as a 1/4 owner. The house was sold on 07/24/2020, and I received 1/4 of the sale. I don't know the initial value of the house, which was sold for $50,000.00. I am being asked for the date that I acquired the property, but I have never lived in the house, and my name was only added to the deed upon my father's death. What should I consider when determining the date of acquisition?
