I have a square leather hassock that my Grandfather gave to my Grandmother in 1942 (corrected to 1949). The leather on top is maroon and the leather all around is off-white with maroon trim striping. It has leather studs around the top and bottom, and it opens up for storage. I've looked online but couldn't find anything similar. Is there anything else the Antiques Appraiser should be aware of?

I have a rooster figurine bought in France with simple markings. It is a white rooster about eight inches tall standing on medium/light blue grass with flowers, and a blue wicker-type basket behind it. The markings include a blue cursive 'x' and two straight blue lines with a blue curved line going through them. Can you identify the origin and value of this item?
