I came across two Japanese katanas at a pawn shop. They are carbon steel, have bamboo handles and sheaths, and are decorated with the Japanese symbol for 'strength' and untranslatable Japanese characters on the sheath. The long blade has nicks from fighting, and both blades have some rust. The design suggests they are made from Tamahagane steel. The pawn shop claimed they were at least a hundred years old, but I'm skeptical. The tang is blackish, which might indicate age. The swords have excellent balance.
